I was having a discussion with a guy at work today who seemed convinced that you couldn’t create a distance calculator using GoogleMaps because the UK postcode databases are copyrighted. You can I said, quite sure of myself… because I have.

The link below uses the basics (haversine formula) provided by P Jenkins but instead of some dodgey old database I’ve used the longitude and latitude provided by a Google GeoPos search… my version calculates the distance in Miles based upon the radius of the Earth provided my wikipedia from a postcode just north of London. It was originally created for a client some time ago but never got used. Please feel free to rip off as much as the code I have - have fun (obviously apply for your own google maps api.

It’s important to note that the current ‘theme’ or style (or design or whatever) of the site is an interim. I quite literally uploaded Wordpress and changed one or two CSS rules last night before bed. I plan to come up with something a little more visual… maybe this afternoon on lunch or this evening.

It’s 6am and I’m on the bed, blogging. This has to be a first. I have high hopes for the day!

Ok, so I got a little frustrated with my limited home-made blog and swallowed my pride, downloaded and installed wordpress - after all it’s pretty shit hot at what it does.

“So where’s all the other crap you’ve written?” I hear my single reader shout… it’s all still available online at archives.kimmings.co.uk although I won’t be supporting it any longer and may have to remove the flickr/lastfm stuff.
